Read an Excerpt: Taming the Warrior Spirit

Author Loren Christensen says about Crouching Tiger: Taming the Warrior Within:

"Within this small volume are anecdotes of times when I was heroic, stupid, fearful, and when my warrior spirit was clearly out of control. I'm proud of some of the experiences I share and embarrassed by others. But I have included both, because from each of them Ive learned valuable lessons about violence, life and myself. While these are my experiences, you will find in them, a little or a lot of yourself. If they help you to begin to understand your warrior spirit your crouching tiger -- my efforts have not been wasted."'

Loren W. Christensen - soldier, policeman, martial artist - has called upon his warrior spirit in a wide range of violent encounters: grueling karate and jujitsu matches, brutal barroom brawls and street fights as a military policeman in Saigon, Vietnam, shootings, riots, and gang warfare as a police officer in Portland, Oregon, and fights in the mean streets.

In Crouching Tiger: Taming the Warrior Within author and martial artist Loren W. Christensen shares stories of hand to hand combat and self-defense from the mean streets and back alleys he's worked as an MP and cop for decades. This is a rare look at how martial arts can be used in self-defense and defense of the law, narrated by someone who has been there and lived to tell about it.

Loved it! 5

Reviewer: Wim Demeere from Belgium
I had the opportunity to read the book and must say I loved it. So many people write about warrior spirit without either having a clue or by clouding it in fortune coockie-style rethoric. Loren's book isn't at all like that. It offers a view of the full scala of experiences a modern warrior will encounter. To his credit, the author even dedicates a chapter to the mistakes he made in his life. Few martial arts writers are courageous enough to confess these. Even though courage is what warriors are all about. Highly recommended.  I interviewed Loren on this book and he has graciously given loads of background information. Excellent 5

Reviewer: Pierre Maegaard Knudsen from Denmark
I have read several of Loren W. Christensens books, and there is no doubt about the fact, that he is an very skilled martial artist. But in this book he also shows that he is a very good writer and a storyteller. The storys from his life are written with a soulsearching earnesty, and I think that everybody can learn something about themselves from this book

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading 5

Reviewer: Dr. Alexis Artwohl from police psychologist
Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading CROUCHING TIGER. I talk a lot about the warrior spirit in my Deadly Force Encounters training and will be highlighting your book as a resource for those who want to explore this topic further. Your courageous openness with this anxiety provoking topic is admirable in the way it goes beyond the usual war stories memoir and reveals illuminating episodes that most would not be willing to talk about.
